Nestled on Pancrazio Hill and dominated by the superb bulk of the Norman Swabian Castle, Cosenza's historic center surprises visitors with its unique features of medieval charm.

Its most important monument is the Cathedral Church built in the 13th century inside which is the venerated miraculous icon of the Madonna del Pilerio, and the royal tombs of the Queen of France, Isabella of Aragon and the son of Frederick II who donated to the city in 1222 a precious reliquary, known as the Stauroteca, made of gold and precious stones. According to tradition it holds fragments of the Cross of Christ and is kept at the local Diocesan Museum .
Losing oneself in the city's narrow alleys, it will also be possible to reach as far as the confluence of the Crati and Busento rivers to learn the legendary story of King Alaric and his hidden treasure.
The city also has a strong contemporary connotation linked, for example, to the striking San Francesco di Paola Bridge , the work of the famous architect Santiago Calatrava, and to the so-called MAB, Museo all'aperto Bilotti , located in the city's elegant historic center and housing works by famous artists such as Dalí, De Chirico, Manzú and many others.
