PAOLA: THE PLACES OF THE SAINT

A few kilometers from Cosenza is the most important sacred place in Calabria, namely the Sanctuary of St. Francis .Situated in the hills, facing the enchanting coastline of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Sanctuary of St. Francis retraces the stages of his sanctity, including miracles and suggestions. Walking through this place one can learn about the life of the Patron Saint of our region, admiring the places where he lived and worked his first miracles.
How can we not remember then the Fornace, from where he pulled his beloved little lamb Martinello from the flames still alive, or the Fonte della Cucchiarella, made to gush from the bare rock with a touch of his stick. Inside the Chapel dedicated to him in the Church are also kept some important relics such as the cloak with which he performed his best-known miracle.
DIAMANTE: THE CITY OF MURALS Along the so-called Riviera dei Cedri lies the renowned Diamante. The Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea of Cosenza is now famous not only for its naturalistic beauty (golden beaches, crystal-clear waters and the mountains of the Pollino National Park just a stone's throw away) but also for its curious Murals, a veritable open-air art gallery.
In addition to the suggestions related to culture and the environment, there is no shortage of tourist - gastronomic routes related to the now well-established reality of the Chili Pepper Festival , which every year in the first week of September enlivens the streets of the center. It is also possible to taste typical Cedar products, such as granitas and jams, and learn more about the history of this important citrus fruit, sacred to the Jewish religion.
