Guided tour of the Sila National Park

and Santa Severina

La Sila is a vast plateau which since 2014 has become the tenth MaB Italian Biosphere Reserve in the UNESCO World Network of Sites of Excellence. The territory is characterized by the presence of protected areas, including the Sila National Park, twenty-five Sites of Community Interest (SIC), a Site of National Interest (SIN), three Special Protection Areas (SPA), i.e. areas subject to particular protected and included in the NATURA 2000 European Network of Protection and Safeguarding and other biogenetic state nature reserves.

The visit is aimed at making known the naturist side of the plateau particularly in the locality of Cupone where, following the wildlife paths, you will reach the enclosures where the most significant fauna of the plateau is housed.

Next, at Croce di Magara, we will visit the Fallistro Giants Reserve, an authentic example of ancient Sila, where you can admire specimens of Pino Laricio, 40 meters tall and over 400 years old!

The proposed experience also includes a taste of history and architecture with a visit to the village of Santa Severina, in the province of Crotone. In this small but charming village on the Ionian side, the main monuments all overlook the Campo, the heart square of the historic centre. The imposing Carafa Castle overlooks it, which also houses a small archaeological museum, and the Cathedral dedicated to Sant'Anastasia. Furthermore, we will not miss the Baptistery dating back to the 10th century and which still represents the oldest monument in Calabria still in use today.
